Grill Up Some Steaks This Winter

grilling, steaDo not let the cooler temperatures force you to forgo grilling. It is always the right season to grill some steaks. Whether you like sirloin or rib eye, we have the perfect recipe for you. These are easy to prepare and yield enough food to serve the entire family on a fall or winter evening. We even provide some side dish suggestions to create the perfect meal!

Herb Mustard Steaks:

• 2 to 4 sirloin steaks
• 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
• 2 teaspoons water
• 2 large garlic cloves, crushed
• 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
• ½ teaspoon dried thyme leaves
• ½ teaspoon pepper

Step 1: Combine the water and garlic in a glass, microwave-safe container. Microwave on high for 30 seconds. Stir in the mustard and remaining ingredients.

Step 2: Use a basting brush to spread the mixture on each side of the steaks.

Step 3: Place steaks on grate of grill set to medium heat. Add salt to season, if desired. Cook ¾-inch steaks for between 13 and 16 minutes and 1-inch thick steaks for 17 to 20 minutes. Use a meat thermometer to verify that internal temperature reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 4: Serve hot with rice pilaf and grilled vegetables.

Rib Eye Steaks and Shoestring Fries:

• 1 ½ pounds rib eye steaks
• 2 cloves garlic, crushed
• ¼ cup sherry vinegar
• ¼ cup olive oil
• 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
• Pepper and salt, for seasoning

Fries:

• 1 ½ pounds (approximately 2 medium) potatoes, cut to form shoestrings
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 3 tablespoons olive oil
• Cooking spray
• Pepper, for seasoning

Step 1: Preheat grill to medium-high.

Step 2: Whisk vinegar, olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic in a large glass container. Put the steaks into the dish and turn them to coat with the marinade. Allow steaks to marinate for 10 to 20 minutes and turn once during this time.

Step 3: Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Use cooking spray to coat two baking sheets.

Step 4: Toss the salt, oil, and potatoes in a bowl. Arrange the potatoes on the baking sheets in a single layer.

Step 5: Bake potatoes for approximately 18 to 20 minutes or until they are crisp and the edges are golden brown.

Step 6: Grill steaks until they reach desired level of doneness (for medium-rare to medium, cook for between 8 and 12 minutes).

Step 7: Put some fries on top of each steak before serving.
