Grilled Potato Casserole…The Perfect Thanksgiving Side Dish

thanksgiving side dishesIf responsibility for the Thanksgiving meal has fallen onto your plate, so to speak, you are probably searching for some recipes. Potatoes are a popular side dish for the Thanksgiving bird but cooking and mashing them can be a strenuous job. Make things easy on yourself and give the oven a rest by preparing this delicious grilled potato casserole that serves four. We know it will become a Thanksgiving favorite!


• 4 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and cubed
• 1 ½ cups milk
• 1 cup onion, chopped
• 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
• 3 tablespoons butter
• ½ cup green bell pepper, chopped
• 1 teaspoon salt
• ½ teaspoon seasoned pepper
• ¼ teaspoon celery seed
• ¼ teaspoon paprika

Step 1: Preheat grill to medium-high.

Step2: Melt butter in a large saucepan on a stove burner set to medium-low. Whisk in salt, pepper, celery seed, and flour. Cook for one minute, stirring frequently.

Step 3: Gradually whisk milk into the mixture. Adjust heat to medium and bring to simmering. Cook for between 5 and 10 minutes or until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble, stirring frequently.

Step 4: Stir in green bell pepper, onion, and potatoes.

Step 5: Place a large piece of heavy duty aluminum foil on a flat surface. Pour the potato mixture onto the foil. Sprinkle paprika on top.

Step 6: Loosely fold the foil around the potato mixture, tightly sealing all edges.

Step 7: Grill for approximately 45 to 50 minutes or until potatoes are tender, turning the foil packet every 15 minutes.
