If a regular hamburger just will not do, try adding some filling like blue cheese or toppings like apples and bacon. A burger stuffed with blue cheese is hearty and satisfying. Add some spinach and red onion to each bun and you will really get everyone raving. Burgers with apple and bacon toppers are adventures for the taste buds. Grill up these burgers any time you need a quick and easy, out-of-the ordinary meal.
Blue Cheese Burger Ingredients:
• 1 pound of ground beef
• 1 medium red onion, sliced
• 1 cup fresh baby spinach
• 1/3 to ½ cup (approximately 2 ounces) crumbled blue cheese
• 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
• Olive oil
• 1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
• 4 hamburger buns, split
• Large bowl
• Waxed paper
• Basting brush
• Meat thermometer
Step 1: Combine the pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and beef in the bowl. Cover a flat work surface with waxed paper and use this area to shape the beef mixture into eight patties, each with a 4-inch diameter.
Step 2: Put 1 tablespoon of blue cheese into the center of each of four patties. Top each with one of the remaining four patties. Pinch together the edges of the top and bottom patties to seal the burger.
Step 3: Brush each of the onion slices with the olive oil and sprinkle them with salt.
Step 4: Preheat the grill to medium-high. Put the onion slices and burgers on the grill rack. Grill until meat thermometer inserted in center of each burger registers 160 to 165 degrees Fahrenheit, approximately 5 minutes per side.
Step 5: Brush olive oil onto the cut sides of each bun. Grill the buns, with their cut sides facing down, during the last minute of burger grilling time.
Step 6: Serve the burgers on the buns with the spinach, grilled onions, and remaining blue cheese.
Apple Bacon Burger Ingredients:
• ½ pound ground beef
• ½ pound bulk Italian sausage
• 6 slices crisp cooked bacon
• 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
• 2 small green apples
• 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
• 4 Kaiser rolls, split and toasted
• 1 teaspoon honey
• 12-inch skillet
• Paper towels
• Apple corer
• Small bowl
• Large bowl
• Mixing spoon
Step 1: Cook the bacon in the skillet on medium high heat until it is crisp. Drain bacon on paper towels.
Step 2: Core one apple and chop it finely. Combine the sausage, beef, and apple slices in the mixing bowl. Shape the beef mixture into 4 patties, each ½-inch thick.
Step 3: Heat grill to medium-high. Place burgers on grill rack and BBQ until the meat is no longer pink, approximately 4 or 5 minutes per side.
Step 4: Combine honey, mustard, and mayonnaise in the small bowl.
Step 5: Core the remaining apple and chop it.
Step 6: Layer slices of apple and a grilled burger on each bun bottom. Top with one and half slices of bacon. Spread the mayonnaise mixture on the cut side of the bun tops. Put the top buns on the burgers.
